A Nipawin company was fined $5,600 for failing to pay wages owed to employees. Ridgewood Ranch Inc., operating as Ridgewood Construction, pleaded guilty to four violations under The Saskatchewan Employment Act in Estevan Provincial Court on April 9, 2018.
All four violations were for failing to pay wages within 14 days of termination of employment. The company was fined $1,000 plus a $400 surcharge on each count. Charges stem from complaints received by Employment Standards between February 10 and April 4, 2017. Employment Standards officers determined that the employees involved were owed a total of $13,534.48. The employees have been paid the full amount. The Employment Standards Division at Labour Relations and Workplace Safety recovered more than $2.5 million in unpaid wages in 2016-17.
