Early morning motorists got quit the scene this morning as 30 rail cars left the tracks north near the city of Saskatoon. At around 9:30am a CN train derailed at a rail crossing at Highway 11 and Wanuskewin Road. No one was hurt in the derailment as the train was not carrying crew members at the time of derailment.
The Saskatoon Fire Department first received calls about the derailment and traffic in the area was immediately blocked off. The fire department confirmed the 52-car long train was carrying grain and crews were dealing with a fire involving one locomotive which was leaking diesel fuel.
Corman Park police reported no dangerous goods were involved in the derailment and that there was no risk to public safety.
Clean-up began shortly after 11 a.m., with partial traffic flow due to be restored later in the day Tuesday.
Drivers were advised to detour around the area using Highway 305 and Highway 12.
