The first round of the 2019 SGI Canada Henderson Cup is in the books folks! In the North we saw the Watrous Winterhawks sweep the Kindersley Senior Hockey in a lop sided 2 games. Game 1 and 2 both going to Watrous by scores of 8-2 and 7-2. Watrous will move on to play a best of 3 series against the Foam Lake Flyers Senior Hockey Team in the North Semi Final. Game one is set for Saturday February 23 in Watrous, Saskatchewan and game two is scheduled for Saturday March 2nd in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. The Naicam Senior Vikings Hockey Club swept theLanigan Pirates in two games. Game one was a nail biter which saw Naicam squeaking by Lanigan by a score of 5-4. The Vikings also took game two by a score of 5-3. Naicam moves on to the North Semi Finals vs Meadow Lake. It took three games to decide the series between Meadow Lake and Warman. Warman Senior HockeyWildcats took game one 9-7. The Meadow Lake Senior Broncos stole game two by a score of 6-4, forcing game three which Meadow Lake dumped the Wildcats 7-2. Meadow Lake moves on to the North Semi Finals vs the Naicam Vikings.
Heading back down south we saw the Milestone Flyers sweep Yellow Grass Senior Wheat Kings in two straight games. Game one was a 7-2 blowout in favour of the Flyers and game two saw Milestone edge Yellow Grass 6-4. Milestone moves on to the South Semi Final. The battle between the Grenfell Spitfires and theLumsden Monarchs went the distance this weekend seeing 4-0 shutout in game one for the Spitfires in Lumsden, when the series swung back to Grenfell the monarchs marched into town looking for revenge and slapped the spitfires 6-2. Game three had everyone on their seats back in Lumsden but the hometown crowd would be left disappointed as the Spitfires snuck by Lumsden by a score of 3-2. Grenfell will move on to the South Semi Final vs the Milestone Flyers. Next up we saw the defending Henderson Cup Champions sweep the Cupar Canucks two games to none. Game one was close by a score of 6-5 at home at the Balgonie Stardome in Balgonie, Sk. Game two was a bit of a different story, seeing the Bison drop the Canucks 7-2 in Cupar, Saskatchewan. Balgonie moves onto the South Semi Finals vs the Bethune Bulldogs. After an appearance at last year's 2018 Allan Cup in Rosetown, the Bethune Bulldogs are back in A looking for a chance to raise the SGI Canada Henderson Cup but their first opponent is theBalcarres Broncs Senior Hockey Club. Game one went in favour of the Bulldogs by a score of 4-1 in Bethune. Game two back in the Town of Balcarreswas an exciting affair to say the least but unfortunately for the Broncs the Bulldogs held on to win 5-4 to complete the sweep two games to none.
