The 2024 PGLL season kicked off this week and there is a new team based in southeast Saskatchewan. The Weyburn Razorbacks are the newest team in the U22 junior B league and will be looking to make an impact.
Since the plan for the team was first announced in late 2023, there has been a lot of buzz in the community. The season ticket drive is well underway, and the team has been creating excitement. Part of that excitement is the recruiting process, which has seen a lot of home-grown talent committing to the club.

“We got some kids from the Buff (Standing Buffalo First Nation) coming out, as all, and I mean, it’s good to have Sammy Borschowa back – I know he played in the Dub (WHL) and he’s coming back home,” Coach Dalton said of some of the talent that has signed on for the season. “Merrick Baht, he used to play at a very high level. Same with Trent Benning and Mathew Charlton. Jessica Benning, our captain, has been around playing all over. She’s played for Langley, she tried out for Team Canada earlier this year, and she's going to be leading the team as captain.”
“We’re going to be an above .500 team,” Coach Dalton said with confidence.
April 27th will see the team make the trip to Prince Albert for a doubleheader against the Prince Albert Predators. The Razorbacks will then host the Regina Barracudas for their home opener on May 1st.
